Milford Sound is a place of absolute wonder. It is like a land locked away for eons linked only recently through a narrow sloping tunnel, Homer Tunnel. Milford Sound is a must-see for anyone visiting New Zealand. It would be on my list of top 10 places to visit on the planet for its sheer beauty and isolation.
This image of Stirling Falls was captured from a boat on a recent tour of Milford Sound in the Fiordland region of New Zealand’s South Island. This image proudly hangs on the wall of my own home and I find something quite mysterious about it. I’m not sure if it is the shapes that are formed by the mass of water falling from the escarpment above, or if the image seems to change slightly every time I view it. To me a great image is one that gives the view of looking into a fire, that there is something mesmerising about it that is difficult to define.
